Harbin Ice and Snow Festival

Hello World!

Today we want to share with you one of the most impressive festivals in the whole world. Why impressive? Because it involves winter, snow, ice, skiing, competition, art, creativity, fun…

Before telling you what this festival is about I would like you to see this video

Amazed? It is not a city, it is not Disneyland, it is not a Cathedral….it is the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival celebrated every year from January 5 to almost the end of February in Habin, the capital of the north-easterly  province in China, Heilongjiang.

This festival started in 1999 with Chinese artists, but nowadays it has become an international festival where artists from all over share their art and their expressions in their sculptures. Since 2001, this festival is celebrated on the Sun Island Park in the Songhua River due to the huge space needed to make the sculptures.

For tourists this festival is a great opportunity to experience the expressions of the world, of cultures and of nature. It is the right place to find the interdependence and interaction between human beings and nature.

Think for a moment…human beings can build amazing things, but only with their ideas alone, they need natural resources, in this case what a spectacle are artists and snow giving us!

Sorry I forgot to tell you, the temperature is around -30º C or -22º F!
