Las Fallas de Valencia

Now, we are going to move to Valencia, Spain. To celebrate one of the famous street festivals. From March 15 to 19 (the feast of Saint Joseph, day of the father in the whole country), Valencia is given over to a carnival of bonfires, fiesta, fireworks and a healthy dose of satire known as Las Fallas, the fires.
The festivalattracts in the region of 2 million people each year who come to see the large paper maiche caricature figures of both nation and internationally famous people. These large models can be as high as 4 metres and there will always be at least a few people that are immediately recognisable, even to foreigners.
Every evening there is a colourful carnival in the central square of the city, with a different theme every night. On 16th it is the folkloric carnival. On 17th and 18th it is the Offer of the Flowers – a wooden silhouette of the Virgin in the plaza de la Virgin is filled in with carnations, brought by traditional parades in full colours and music. On 19th it is the Carnival of Fire.
The whole city walks the streets by day and by night Valencia turns into a mega street party with concerts and discos on every square, accompanied by an all-out war of petards and fireworks.
